This section defines the following terms used in The Women's University Ordinance, 1985: • Academic Council — the Academic Council of the University • Affiliated College — an educational institution affiliated to the University but not maintained or administered by it • Authority — any of the authorities of the University specified in section 16 • Chancellor — the Chancellor of the University • Dean of University College — the head of a University College • Director — the Director of an Institute • Institute — a teaching unit in a University College • Officer — an officer of the University specified in section 8 • Prescribed — prescribed by Statutes, Regulations or Rules • Principal — the head of an affiliated college • Pro-Chancellor — the Pro-Chancellor of the University; (1) “Syndicate” means the Syndicate of the University • Teaching Unit — a constituent/affiliated college, institute, department or such other unit where instruction/research is being undertaken • University — the Women University constituted under this Ordinance and includes University colleges • University College — a college maintained and administered by the University; and • Vice-Chancellor — the Vice-Chancellor of the University This is the official statutory text, shown as written — it is not a paraphrase or a legal opinion. 2. Definitions. ___In this Ordinance, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context:- (a) “Academic Council” means the Academic Council of the University; (b) “Affiliated College” means an educational institution affiliated to the University but not maintained or administered by it; (c) “Authority” means any of the authorities of the University specified in section 16; (d) “Chancellor” means the Chancellor of the University; (e) “Dean of University College” means the head of a University College; (f) “Director” means the Director of an Institute; (g) “Institute” means a teaching unit in a University College; (h) “Officer” means an officer of the University specified in section 8; (i) “Prescribed” means prescribed by Statutes, Regulations or Rules; (j) “Principal” means the head of an affiliated college; (k) “Pro-Chancellor” means the Pro-Chancellor of the University; (1) “Syndicate” means the Syndicate of the University; (m) “Teachers” include Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers and research staff engaged whole-time by the University for teaching graduate, honors or post-graduate classes and such other persons as may be recognized to be Teachers by the University; (n) “Teaching Unit” means a constituent/affiliated college, institute, department or such other unit where instruction/research is being undertaken; (o) “University” means the Women University constituted under this Ordinance and includes University colleges; (p) “University College” means a college maintained and administered by the University; and (g) “Vice-Chancellor” means the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
