Section 343: Cargo ship safety equipment certificate

343. Cargo ship safety equipment certificate.—(1) If the Federal Government is satisfied in respect of a Pakistani cargo ship of a gross tonnage of five hundred or more that the ship complies with the requirements of the rules made under sections 331 and 341 applicable to such ship, and that the ship is properly provided with lights and shapes and means of making fog signals required by the Collision Regulations, the Federal Government shall, on an application by the owner or master of the ship, cause to be issued if the ship complies fully with the aforesaid requirements, a cargo ship safety equipment certificate: Provided that if there is in force in respect of the ship an exemption certificate granted under section 347 and if the ship complies with all the aforesaid requirements other than those from which the ship is exempt under that certificate and is properly provided with lights and shapes and means of making fog signals required by the Collision Regulations, a qualified cargo ship safety equipment certificate. (2) The cargo ship safety equipment certificate shall be in the prescribed form and shall state that the ship complies with all the requirements of the Safety Convention as to equipment and that she is provided with lights and shapes and means of making fog signals as required by the collision regulations.
