209. Report of desertion and absence without leave.—(1) Whenever any officer, seaman or apprentice not shipped in Pakistan deserts or otherwise absents himself in Pakistan without leave from a Pakistani ship in which he is engaged to serve, the master of the ship shall, within forty-eight hours of discovering such desertion or absence, report the same to the Shipping Master or to such other officer as the Federal Government may appoint in this behalf, unless in the meantime the deserter or absentee returns. (2) Any master who wilfully neglects to comply with the provisions of sub-section (1) shall be liable to a fine which may extend to five thousand rupees.
